Universal Footwear & Trading Company (Pty) Ltd was established in 1993 by Philippe & Sheri Hasson, who had the drive & passion to bring trendy/fashionable footwear to South African shores. Both having extensive fashion backgrounds, they began sourcing shoes from all over the world. In order for Philippe to make one of his first trips, he had to sell his Harley Davidson Motorcycle, a wedding gift from Sheri. And so “ZOOM” was born! Some time, and many trips later, Sheri & Philippe were joined in the company by their cousin, Ike. Today the company imports/exports as well as having a chain of “ZOOM” retail stores across South Africa and in Australia.

Universal Footwear & Trading Company (Pty) ltd has evolved into a product development, sourcing & distribution wholesaler to all major chain stores across South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and the USA, mostly under house brands. They also manufacture products under licence which include Disney Barbie, Batman, Spiderman, as well as Dora, Ben 10, Bakugan and SA Rugby's Bokkie. These products range from footwear, accessories, hats and jewellery.

The company’s own brands, namely ZOOM – Ladies, ZOOM – Men, Daniella Michelle and Whistles, as well as their independent customers and retail division, are a separate focus. The ZOOM retail stores enable the company to showcase all their brands under one roof, thus offering the ultimate shopping experience.
